“Arriving in Biel at midnight, I climbed up to the edge of a black forest on the hill. As I searched for the door to the scout lodge through which I could enter, I could already feel its presence. As so often, a thousand questions ran through my mind: what was I doing here, so far from London? Who was going to be there? And above all, what would this moment really be like? I had followed an intuition, having read the intentions of the residency, which had resonated deeply within me. Yes, I wanted to listen, to move, to use my voice – and yes, I’m tirelessly curious about the forest. But above all, I wanted to live this experience in community.”
